Are we being served? Post Office counters I’m not after ham or insurance

Today I had the misfortune to go into the Main Cardiff Post office, to post a lot of small items to my sheddies (hint badges)

They have introduced a new queuing system, like a deli counter in tesco or chavo’ticket in argos where you take a numbered ticket and they call you number out after an age.

OK it’s probably half my fault as I went at 1pm but it’s the most convenient time as I am in work.

But the unorganised way it was done once you have your ticket (mine was 011 ) people are milling around there are not enough seats (similar to Argos) – people getting each others way, at least with the old system (no idea when it changed) of lining up in a queue like us British know how to do, was simpler.

I was waiting about 20 mins, and my number was called but due to confusion and first time being there I could not see the counter I had to go to. I just had to look to my left to the Bureau du change where they have opened one of those windows to accommodate the overly subscribed Counter Services … anyway I ask for my items to be checked to see how much I need to pay and she just gave me a book of 1st class stamps!

Looking around there were representatives trying to sell me Finance, Insurance, Broadband & phone, Travel but when I wanted to post some mail it seemed like I was doing them a favor. what ever happened the Royal Mail…

Btw I normally use my local post office for all my posting needs and they are helpful, friendly efficient & quick, but they will probably be closed because they don’t sell enough “other services”.
