Last night I went out with my mate Rob for our regular few pints in Cardiff and general chat about beer, gadgets and his recent trip to the Great American Beer festival.

We sometimes bring a beer to swap, this time I had bought a few bottles of Brewdog Abstrakt 03 that i bought for him, and he brought his bottle of the infamous Brewdog Sink The Bismarck! which at 41% is the strongest beer I have tasted, anyway more on that in a bit.

We started at everyone’s pub to hate, the Spoon’s Prince of Wales – I had Blond Witch from Moorhouse

It was a bit bland but for a first pint adequate.

We eagerly moved on to Zero Degrees and had a pint of their lovely Oktoberfest but at 6.5% I could see the night was not going to end in a good way.

We popped to the Goat Major but they did not have any guests on, so we made our excuses and left.

The next port of call was the Owain Glyndwr, where we had a pint of the Vale of Glamorgan brewery Ryder Cup beer “Tiger Would” with it’s eye catching pump clip.

not a bad pint but the this was overshadowed, when rob pulled out his bottle of Brewdog Sink The Bismarck and his sampler glass from the American beer festival

Image from rob

It was like a spirit you could smell the high alcohol as soon as it was poured, but had a lovely woody smell, it tastes a bit sweet but not as sweet as I would expected, with a hint of liquorice but was definably a tasty beer in moderation, maybe the beer has changed since rob has been keeping it as it comes with a handy plug.

It may have been the 41% having effects but we then decided to go to a bar I have not been to before (in it’s current guise).

The buffolo bar – it has an Oktoberfest on and had various bottles of German beer at £3.50 a go and strangely enough a few belgiums as well..

I had a bottle of Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier Naturtrüb 5.5% – which was easy to drink and rob had some smoky beer.

I will be going back to the buffolo as the food menu looked good.

anyway we finished the evening at the Central Bar another Spoons pub and we had the very nice, titanic last porter of Call

a good evening on very different beers, but I must remember to eat some food and not drink the strong beers.

Of course this caught my eye due to the punk overtones(or is that undertones!) in the name & label. I found it to be a bit too bitter but after a few tastes you got used to it and it was lovely and I can see myself quaffing a few of these, plus it was only 99p a bottle in my giant Tesco.. This is what the brewery say about it A beer of inherent contradiction. This heavy weight of the beer world is strikingly delicate with a white gold appearance. The light fruity aroma dominates the initial confrontation; lychee, kiwi and passionfruit all prevail with subtle nuances of cherry and strawberry. Don’t be fooled however by this smooth medium bodied ale. As it trickles down your throat as this wolf in sheep’s clothing begins to grow teeth. The bite comes as the bitterness builds and endures no matter how hard the malty sweetness of the alcohol tries to tame this ferocious beast. An exciting beer that will captivate with a whole body drinking experience.
This is what the brewery say about it

I have heard of BrewDog before (i had their stout somewhere but can’t remember) and they sell the Beer online this one in particular is £12 for a case of 12 a good investment if you can’t get it locally..

Now I wonder if they would give some of this Fine beer away for Shed Week as we now have an official Punk band who Iam sure would love a few pints.
